The Skinny

APRIL SHOWERS OF NEW SPRING THINGS

Dear Members of Parliament,

Ring-a-ding-ding, spring is the thing and our house of uncommon goods is full of pretty new things to perk up your pad. In fact, there are so many pretty new things, we had to add more square footage to our newsletter. Sofas and chairs and stools, oh my!

Ace in Spades

Our new Ace Series is the yogi of sofas. It’s crazy flexible. All four pieces move into many different positions. Even the weighted back rests can be flipped from one side to another. Need to bend over backwards to accommodate an impromptu overnighter? It does guest bed beautifully too. Choose from hundreds of fabrics to boot. We’ve also got graphic pillows galore in store to give Ace an extra jolt.

Sofa starting at $960 (75d x 35w x 29h)
Chair starting at $555 (38d x 38w x 29h)
Ottoman starting at $495 (38d x 38w x 18h)
Bumper starting at $445

Parker Here

More Mad Men than Mahatma Gandhi? For those in the market for stricter retro styling, then Parker is where you’ll want to do your Don draping. Named for the swingin’ hotel in Palm Springs, its eye-catching rectangular inserts and base come in range of wood tones (from white and black to walnut and beech) for pairing with a tome’s worth of textiles.

Starting at $1420 (33d x 83w x 31h)

Nice Vice

Whether romance novels or dystopian teen trilogies are your weakness, a good-looking reading chair is de rigueur. The North American-made Viceroy makes the perfect perch, as our Parliament mascot Rufus demonstrates. Pick from a litter of fabric and leg options. It comes with a matching lumbar pillow, but sadly not the adorable pup.

Starting at $920 (33d x 29w x 37h)

Two Hoots

With spring, our parliament of owl mugs has grown to include two new hues. Add sunshiny yellow and navy blue to your cupboard of black, gray and white ones. As per usual, these made-in-Japan ceramic mugs are dishwasher and microwave safe.

$22 each

Stool's Out

Want in on a little interior designers’ secret for snagging extra seating, filling a corner or squeezing a side table into a small space without sacrificing any style Feng Shui? Über cool stools. Choose from a slew of shapes (round ones, angular ones), shades (gold, silver, red, yellow, and more) and patterns (mod, Moroccan). They’re also happy to hang out outside.

$155 - $345

Patio Season

All hands on deck, ‘tis also the season to take the party outdoors. As the days get longer and the temps creep higher, have your café au lait on the porch seated at this slick patio set. The teak wood tops and shiny, metal frame have been treated to take what the outside dishes out.

Chair $195 each
Table $395

Meet the Minister of Finance

Dear Members of Parliament,

You can kill two Turtle Doves with one stone at Parliament this Christmas. Figuratively, of course. With both darling decorations and gorgeous gifts galore to be gotten, you can cross more than a few to-dos off the list (sorry we don’t sell organic turkeys yet).

To close out 2011, we’ve got one last Minister for you to meet. Our gal Finance shares a few smart and sexy holiday buys.

Tina Lee, Minister of Finance

Roots: Vancouver born, bred and based.
Responsibilities: Ms. Money. Also, owner, planner, organizer and sometimes salesperson.
Relevant experience: In finance longer than she cares to mention (a lady is allowed secrets), 14 years in home décor.
Design aesthetic: Clean lines, not a lot of clutter.
Accent du jour: A blue-hued graphic print.
Decorating tip: Ask yourself, "How easy is it to take care of?"
Local haunts: Never the same place twice, but the last place she loved was Cork & Fin.

Her Pick: Custom Parliament Candles

“Our very own candles! These were created for us by the same company that supplies Neiman Marcus and Barneys New York. We named them after songs that spoke to our favourite Parliament colours: ‘Blue Monday’ is sweet honeysuckle, ‘In The Navy’ is earthy vetiver, ‘Fade to Grey’ is refreshing cucumber mint and ‘Mellow Yellow’, my favourite, is soft, subtle pear. I’ll be stuffing a few stockings with these.”
